Siem Reap · Khmere Maison d’Angkor

[:en]

This might actually be on the top of my favorite Airbnb places I have stayed at so far. The interesting wooden Khmer interior and the partially left open spaces make a stay in this traditional house to be a unique experience. Khmere Maison d’Angkor is located behind a small temple complex. Occasionally, you can see monks on their way to daily prayers. Even though I only stayed at this beautiful Airbnb just for two nights, I still can’t get over this very simple place.

Room

The double room we stayed at is very spacious. It is equipped with all the basic pieces of furniture and amenities such as AC, shower gel, shampoo, hairdryer, safe and towels. We didn’t get to spend much time in our room because those only two days we were occupied exploring the Angkor area. After our day trips, we went to get a good and cheap lunch somewhere in the area.

Khmere Maison d’Angkor offers dormitory rooms as well as double rooms on Airbnb. In order to save you some time, I have looked up the links and inserted them for both, dormitories and double rooms here:

Price

This place has constantly been receiving superb feedback. We stayed for two nights and paid 67€ . In my opinion, this is a very decent price for this double room and its standard. The price already includes an airport pick-up which we, of course, made use of! The driver who picked us up at the airport was also our driver for the two days we stayed in Siem Reap.

Staff

The receptionist was very friendly and warmly welcomed us to Khmere Maison d’Angkor. We were kindly asked to have a seat and were given some homemade drinks while he was doing the Check-In process.

Every staff wears traditional Khmer clothes. I honestly wouldn’t have expected that from the staff at Khmere Maison d’Angkor. Especially because it is merely a place to stay at, rather than a fancy luxury hotel. Before going up to our rooms, he gave us a detailed explanation of the area. And since there is no restaurant at the hotel, we were happy to receive information on the nearest coffee shops and local restaurants.

Location

Khmere Maison d’Angkor is located near Wat Kesararam accessible via the main road, but don’t worry, it is not noisy at all! You can easily reach it from the airport via the main road and Angkor is only a 10-minute drive away. There will be monks who pass by on their way to daily prayer or small groups of tourists that come to visit the temple, but nevertheless, the area is very quiet.

Places to eat nearby

If you cross the main road to get to the opposite side of the street – which can be a pretty tricky task depending on the traffic since there’s no crosswalk nearby – you will find a couple of restaurants along Taphul Road. Personally, I looooved getting breakfast and coffee at Brown Coffee Siem Reap. A regular Flat White only costs 2,70€ (3,35USD).

For dinner or lunch, I can recommend Lilypop Restaurant, it’s a good place to end the day with some delicious food. We went there twice because we were too lazy to look for another place to eat… Plus, it’s super cheap! 3,75$ for a curry with rice? I’m in! 🙂

I didn’t take many pictures aside from Angkor because I was so exhausted from walking around all day long. Drop me an email if you have any questions! Safe travels!
